Someone was asking me the other day about how to scrub things from the internet which I assume is what this was about. I told them is not possible, if the data is out there is out there. I don't see how making a law will change that but since I can't see what it even is they are proposing maybe they finally figured it out!

Consider that some steps, although not a 100% fix, are still better than nothing. Lock your car doors, or in this case, hand consumers the keys to their digital lives so they can lock their digital doors if they want.

How does the website owner know if the removal request is legitimate and not an unauthorized third party requesting removal?

1) California is rolling out DROP where its residents can sign up with proof of identification and then submit deletion requests they'll broadcast to data brokers. 2) Companies have to provide a means to submit a request, and soon that will be required via a web form (rather than a plan email request). In theory it means you request deletion for an account you can prove you own with an account number and some PII. The ironies of providing PII to remove PII isn't missed.
I'm blocked via their CloudFlare setup. Is it because I am based in Europe?
